Define the food item
If a dorm fee includes groceries or eating out, do not add the same amount again as food. After loading a sourced example, change the item to your routine as a personal input.
İPA’s Istanbul private-dorm and student-flat food items from June 2024 are historical references. They are not today’s food price or an average for every student.
Enter transport you really use
A student pass can be combined with another transport mode only when you actually use it in addition; do not repeat the same pass in two fields. State your usage and period clearly.
The ODTÜ Ankara source gives a 2026 student pass range of TRY 400–600 per month. It is a range, not one definite price.
Do not mix bundles and items
Adding a bundled “basic living excluding housing” estimate to separate food, utilities, and transport items creates double counting. Use either the bundle or its components.
A missing item is not a zero. The tool marks it as missing and says the budget is incomplete.

Scope conditions: İPA’s June 2024 Istanbul study compares a private dorm with a 120 m² 3+1 flat shared by three people. The flat rent of 9,036 TL is per person and must not be divided again. In the private dorm, internet, water, electricity, and gas are included in housing; the 250 TL bill is phone only. The flat’s 1,046 TL bill includes phone, internet, energy, and water.
